Summer is winding down, and school is back in session, but the end of summer doesn't necessarily mean the end of family fun. August is National Family Fun Month and I've got some suggestions for activities for parents and kids to do together …. to keep the spirit of summer alive.
Plan a Family Game Night
Turn off the TV, hide the tablets and iPhones and break out a good, old-fashioned board game. Try Barbecue Party by Goliath Games, the game that decides who will be grill master or dinner disaster. Choose your card to see what you get to put on the grill for dinner, but watch out! This temperamental grill may jump, causing all the food to fall off. The winner is the first player to get 3 items off the grill before the food takes a spill. $19.99; 2 or more players. If the kids can’t sit still? Try Crazy Legs from Endless Games, a new game that gets players up and moving. Each space on the game board represents a new physical challenge for children and families to jump, twist, shake and exercise their way to victory. $16.99
Throw a Popcorn Party
Everyone loves wholesome and healthy popcorn and snacks. Let the popping fun begin with Capital Corn & Confections. From sweet to savory, Capital Corn & Confections has created all-natural popcorn that is perfect for sharing with the entire family on movie nights, game nights, and more! Choose from 12 delicious flavor combinations to satisfy everyone's tastes like Cookies & Cream, Cinnamon Bun, Red Velvet, Garlic Basil, Salt & Vinegar, Dark Chocolate Truffle and Sour Cream & Chives. $12.99 My mouth is watering just writing all these yummy flavors!!!
Star Gazing at Night
Grab a telescope and learn about the planets with your family. With Celestial Buddies, kids can expand their imaginations with a literal take on out-of-this-world pretend play. Each Celestial Buddy comes with a tag showing the actual object it personifies and some fun facts to give the toy educational value. Starting at $21.99

Family Bike Ride
Bicycling provides great fun and cardio activity for everyone in the family. Now you can cycle at night – safely and in style with Monkey Lights. Monkey Lights are rugged, practical, high performance bicycle light that keeps you visible in all weather conditions. They strap to your spokes and displays fun and colorful 8-bit graphics on your spinning bike wheel. Show your style with cutting edge themes: 10 full color, ultra-bright LEDs provide nearly 360 degree visibility. 19 themes and 16 colors with hundreds of combinations. Hub-mounted battery keeps wheel balanced. $39.99.
Go for a Bike Glide
Okay, little Tommie can’t ride his bike yet, but that doesn't mean he should miss out on the family bike rides. Learning to ride a bike should be fun, and now the whole family can share the fun with Little Tommie. Glide Bikes are pedal-less bikes that help children learn balance and gain confidence. And the best part … the whole family can ride Glide Bikes because there are models designed for all age groups and skill levels, from two-year-olds to adults. And with the pedal conversion kit, all Glider Bikes can be transformed into regular pedal bikes. So kids can do like Fred Flintstone and let their feet do the gliding .. and gain a valuable lesson in the process. Prices start at $89
