EARTH DAY!!
Started over 40 years ago --its just starting to
catch on!!! I think we forget how much power we
have to reshape our surroundings and
ultimately our children’s future.
We already do a variety of things:
take our chic reusable tote out shopping
turn off lights when you are not in a room.
reuse/recycle your plastic and tins.
For this Earth Day, some additional ways to improve our environment and our health:
Conserve Water
The amount of waste and chemicals in the production of water bottles is absolutely staggering. It is a myth that bottled water is healthier, and there are so very many fun and easy options now for healthy filtered water.
It is very simple to put a filter on your tap faucet.
Your reusable water bottles pay for themselves quickly from all the money you save by not buying disposable ones.
Ride Your Bike
Riding bicycles have many benefits. First, it helps with the environment by eliminating carbon dioxide fumes because bikes don't run on gasoline.
Biking offers many health benefits.
•increased cardiovascular fitness
•increased strength
•increased balance and flexibility
•increased endurance and stamina
•increased calories burned
Plus, being out on your bike is just flat-out fun. MOST Everyone can do it! The more time you spend on two wheels, the harder it is to take yourself too seriously!
Eat Less Beef
The production of meat and dairy requires the use of large amounts of pesticides, fertilizer, fuel, feed and water, and it releases greenhouse gases, manure and a range of toxic chemicals into our air and water.
You don’t have to convert to being a vegetarian on Earth Day, but here are some things to remember when making up your menu every week:
Remember meat is not the main course; it should be a small part of the meal. Fill your plate with salad and veggies first.
Seek out meatless recipes and ideas. We thought eating less meat would make for a boring and less fulfilling menu each week. This is absolutely not so. We have the most amazing, inexpensive meals and are always trying out new and exciting options. This has proven, for us, to be much healthier than eating the same meat filled menu every week.
Have Some Green Craft FUN!!!!!
Last year each of my kids planted a small tree in our yard
and my daughter and a few friends made paper.
TLC has a fun list and
check out Green Kid Crafts
Don't let being GREEN scare you
even if you do everything in this post--
this Earth Day FIND ONE MORE WAY TO BE GREEN!!
We can all do better.

I'm not a strict vegetarian, but I don't really like eating meat that often (although I am tonight lol) but I really love that it's a greener choice to skip the meat. :)
ReplyDeleteI need to go on a bike ride. Thanks for the inspiration!
I've taken up bike riding after about 15 years of staying off--bad knees...but after PT much better and they told me to use it but not abuse it with the biking =)
DeleteWhat a great post! As a family living in NYC, we walk everywhere. My triple stroller is my car and the bottom of it looks like a typical car trunk :) We are amazed when we visit other places how many people will get in their car to drive less than a mile! Great little reminders to celebrate earth day! Found you on VB! Glad to have found your blog!
ReplyDeleteWOnderful tips!
ReplyDeleteSince we live in the country and "town" is 10 miles away, I don't think our bikes will replace driving-lol-but the idea is fabulous and healthy.
Blessings,
Marcia
I don't mind tap water at all actually! Water is so precious here in the desert, that we constantly think about using as little as possible. It's just a way of living and habit that you don't even think about. Great post!
ReplyDeleteI also wanted to welcome you to Club-Content! So glad to have you!
Nice post on Earth Day. We have planted 14 trees and I just bought some flowers to plant tomorrow as well. We will be doing green outside and maybe make another trip to the recycler.
ReplyDeleteI love riding a bike but there's no good place for my kiddo to do it in :( Also, step outside and you end up smelling like pollution and sweating like you're in a sauna :( At least where I'm from, it's not an ideal place to ride your bike in.
ReplyDeleteWe do the tap water with a filter, reusable bags and little red meat. I'm always looking for other ways to improve our impact on Mother Nature - wish we did live close enough to bike.
