Live Below the Line NEW BZZ CAMPAIGN

As a Bzz agent I join many campaigns---most are for product my family uses sometimes they are to help raise awareness is Live Below the Line by exposing to us to  the daily difficulties experienced by the 1.4 billion people who live in extreme poverty every day.  I have a very tight food budget for my family of 4...but its closer to $4-$5 per day.

Live Below the Line is a campaign that challenges individuals and communities to eat and drink on just $1.50 per day for 5 days. Through the insights gained over the 5 days, Live Below the Line(FB) is assembling a movement of people to get passionate about eradicating extreme poverty. Through partnerships with various charities, the campaign raises both awareness and critical funds.

From May 7th - 11th, I will eat on just $1.50 a day to

raise awareness of the challenges faced by these 1.4
billion people, and to support the work of Global Poverty Project .

The best way to stretch your dollar is add more to the bottom line. You still only get $7.50 for the week, but if you team up with a few friends, you can pool your resources to greatly increase your options at the grocery store. So go out and recruit some friends!

With a little creativity you can whip up some tasty meals. Now, you probably won't be seeing these in Paula Deen's next cookbook, but they'll get you through the week. I'll share the recipes I'll be making--here's one to start off:

Pasta with Shredded Onions, Carrots and Garlic:

1 package of bow-tie pasta

1 tablespoon salt

3 carrots

1 tablespoon pepper

1 onion

1 tablespoon garlic powder

1 cup canola oil

  1. WOW...what a great challenge! My best suggestion...rice & beans, cheap healthy, filling and full of protein! Since I'm the Budget Diet girl, I'd love to share my frugalicious and fast recipe for Black Bean Soup (3 ingredients!) - http://www.TheBudgetDiet.com/black-bean-soup-3-ingredients. Even cheaper, try Black Beans & Rice - http://www.TheBudgetDiet.com/frugal-fiesta. My site is filled with frugalicious and fast recipes that I hope will help you accomplish your challenge!

  3. Wow...what a terrifying challenge. I may just have to commit to it just to see if I can do it :) I'm very luck as we have a vegetable/fruit market nearby that has ridiculously low prices. I think I could definitely do it.

  4. LOVE this challenge!!!! Our family is already planning on participating (though my daughter's school lunch will not be included in the challenge -- not sure how to incorporate that for a seven year old's understanding). Looking forward to shopping with my teens on Sunday to prepare for the week. Should be interesting!

  8. The cheapest meal I can find, is a soup my friends used to make. Beef and onion. Get marmite (hope you guys know what that is), sick it in a pot with water. Boil it, and then add a chopped onion. Voila: beef and onion soup... Real students food
