Frugal Art for the home

We bought  a new sofa a little while back .Very MUCH need, the style is a bit more modern then our other hand me down, so I wasn't very happy with the art pieces on the wall... and art is not cheep.....THEN it hit me --I've got two of the best modern artist living right in my home-MY KIDS

My plan for the new gallery wall is to hit the thrift shops in the nest few weeks find as many photo frames I can, give them a JET black covering and frame some of my childrens materpieces. I'm also going to dig up some of my old art pieces from my parents celler---thank goodness they never throw things away =D

Well we decided to have  simple black and white frames. That would be simple to change out art pieces as we wished.

This was the wall for a few months...then we had a change out:

the new look =^D
The center piece was made up of photo card I bought at Hobby Lobby for less then $2 a piece they are modpodged to a canvas I bought at Michels for $1 the canvas had a hole in it and was discounted---the letters covered the hole very nicely. Brand new center art piece for under $10! New side pitures are colored by my kids -FREE =)

  3. Your rotating art gallery will always be a conversation starter! When our children were younger, we had an art gallery hallway.

  5. That's a great way to get very personal art for your home. I'm sure your kids like being a part of your decor plans, too. Makes them feel proud every time they see their artwork.

  6. I'm sure your children were thrilled! I've made paintings as a girl and my mom hung them up in our living room and I loved it!

  8. Really great idea! I have some beautiful photos my son took that I've been wanting to frame for over a year. Frames are so expensive, and these are an odd size. I will try the thrift stores for sure!

  9. Great idea! My oldest daughter takes beautiful pictures, so we took them to Walgreens to have them made into posters then used plexi-glass and decorative wall hangers and hung them on the wall.

  10. LOVE it! I just redid our living room and bought the frames at goodwill and just got candid shots of the family developed at Walgreens for cheap. It worked out so well. I never thought of hanging my kids' drawings, though. Thanks for the idea!

  12. Michael's is a great place to get cheap frames. We buy the wooden ones in the craft section, spray paint them, then tack them up over pictures.
