Kids JUNK WARS

On of the new TV show favorite over the summer in our house was CRAFT WARS! on TLC. I don't know if the show is coming back (PLEASE PLEASE TLC!!!!) But "hosting" mini craft wars on a rainy /snowy/or "WHAT CAN WE DO DAY??!!" is become a event at our house.

I gathered all my crafting "junk"-leftovers from craft projects - and I challenged my daughter and niece to a craft war. They had to design a keep sake box for them selves. Now here's a lil pictorial on how it went.

 First I dumped THE JUNK-

WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO....

A ready and willing carpenter =)
No wood shop here...I wish I could have Michael's stock my craft room as much as they do on the show!!! So for this war it all about the glue gun-SAFETY FIRST!!!!

The girls got right to work

THE FINISHED BOXES

A busy day and the girls have a nice box to hold memorabilia in.
But most of all ITS LOADS OF FUN!!!!

Challenge your friends, or your kids and see what goodies you can come up with. These Memorabilia Boxes are a good start but there are  limitless  possibilities.

Spring themes:
Butterflies, Bunnies, Easter Baskets, and Flowers.

Summer themes:
Bumble Bees, Rainbows, Beach fun,  and Cook out.

Fall themes:
Leaves, Apples, Acorn, and Back to School.

Winter theme:
Snowman, Snowflakes, Gift Wrap, and Christmas.

Frugal Art for the home

We bought  a new sofa a little while back .Very MUCH need, the style is a bit more modern then our other hand me down, so I wasn't very happy with the art pieces on the wall... and art is not cheep.....THEN it hit me --I've got two of the best modern artist living right in my home-MY KIDS

My plan for the new gallery wall is to hit the thrift shops in the nest few weeks find as many photo frames I can, give them a JET black covering and frame some of my childrens materpieces. I'm also going to dig up some of my old art pieces from my parents celler---thank goodness they never throw things away =D

Well we decided to have  simple black and white frames. That would be simple to change out art pieces as we wished.

This was the wall for a few months...then we had a change out:

the new look =^D
The center piece was made up of photo card I bought at Hobby Lobby for less then $2 a piece they are modpodged to a canvas I bought at Michels for $1 the canvas had a hole in it and was discounted---the letters covered the hole very nicely. Brand new center art piece for under $10! New side pitures are colored by my kids -FREE =)

Frugal Art project is DONE!!!

A while back I posted about the new couch I got for Mother Day and how it was a bit more contempary then our other sofa, so the art really didn't work so well. I desided to have my kids make some pieces and just you that Modern Art can get way up there and who ha$ that ca$h?!?!? NOT ME, but i DO have two kids who love to draw,paint,ect....and I've got an artistice eye myself so here's the finished wall....looks pretty good I think  =)
