Disney Go Green: A Family Guide to a Sustainable Lifestyle #review #RECYCLING

 Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which day events worldwide are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and celebrated in more than 192 countries each year.

Although I try to do my best every day-we can all do better. I was pleased to be asked to review:Disney Go Green: A Family Guide to a Sustainable Lifestyle (Edda USA ;$12.95 hardcover)

Through the week I'm going to share some of the points made in the book and how we can do them. This is an easy reference book for the whole family. Its not really meant to be ready cover to cover-but you can- You'll find new ideas in every chapter. It simply explains what a carbon footprint,composting, and much more on how we can always keep learning how to be more sustainable.

After perusing the first few chapters a bit the chapter on recycling caught my eye - I do this already but I learned more facts as I read it and our family discuses it and  have found there are even MORE things we can recycle that we never thought of!

1. Appliances: Goodwill accepts working appliances, or you can contact the Steel Recycling Institute to recycle them (800/YES-1-CAN).

2.  Clothes: Wearable clothes can go to your local Goodwill outlet or shelter. Donate wearable women’s business clothing to Dress for Success, which gives them to low-income women as they search for jobs.  Swap clothes with friends and colleagues, and save money on a new fall wardrobe and back-to-school clothes.

3. Athletic shoes: Nike Reuse-a-Shoe turns them into athletic flooring. Soles4Souls and One World Running send still-wearable shoes to runners in need in developing countries.

4.  Batteries: You can recycle both rechargeable and single-use batteries with Battery Solutions.

5.  Computers and electronics: Find the most responsible recycler near you at e-stewards.org/find-a-recycler. Your local Best Buy store will also accept many types of electronics, large and small—from televisions and gaming systems to fans and alarm clocks. 

6.  Compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs): Take them to your local IKEA store or Home Depot for recycling.

7.   Eyeglasses: Your local Lions Club or eye care chain may collect these.

8.  Foam packing: Your local pack-and-ship store will likely accept foam peanuts for reuse.

9. Ink/toner cartridges: Some of you local office supply stores will recycle them-  Recycle Place pays $1 each and will recycle them. 

10. Sports equipment: Resell or trade it at your local Play It Again Sports outlet, 800/476-9249.


 Besides the environmental reasons for recycling, there are also other reasons why is recycling important.

Recycling contributes to the economy! This is because recycling conserves resources and saves money, creates jobs and even generates revenue

This is a simple book teaching how to Sprout. I much like Emma had never herd of this process. I like how simple put this concept is. Emma learns to sprout or grow lentils, chick peas, beans and that you can even sprout sunflower seeds...They taste good and full of protein, iron and vitamin. If you kids love to help out in the kitchen and you want to 
encourage  healthy habits this is the book for you!! Age suggestion is 3-8.

This book King Hugo:Island of Independence is the 13th book of his adventures. I like the lesson Hugo and his friend Seedo the sea dragon learn along the way about how words can hurt. Once they get to the Island of Independance they are reminded by the islanders of all that Hugo has over come already- Respect, Creativity,and Cooperation just to name a few (all the books in Hugo's adventure) Hugo is amazed at what he has already accomplished -but his dream to get to the "real world"  THere is still more to Hugo journey.

#Children'sBook #Review Have You Ever Wondered About Angels?

As a member of Pollen-8 I was intrigued when I read the description of this children's book:

The picture book, 'Have You Ever Wondered About Angels?' takes the child and reader on a whimsical journey to discover what angel’s wings are made of, how they sleep, how they chat with you and most importantly how you can chat with them. 

When you first open the book there is a lovely dedication  to the child from whom the book is given.I enjoy a book that will encourage children's imagination. Although the story is about  Angels--there is no "religious" undertone -the author  explores all the things Angle wings "could" be made of and then reminds the reader they have a companion that will always be there even if you cannot see them 

The colorful illustration are beautiful pieces of art with in the story.

 There is a lovely poem that I think would make for a great wall art in any child's

room.

I think the Meet the Author page is very nice and since receiving the book  I have connected with Chris Alexandria through her website AngelChatter. Its a super way to keep updated on all that happening--like finding out the book just won the Mom's Choice Award, Silver Placement for Bedtime Stories!! 

Aside from the fabulous story I love that Pick-a-Woo Woo who publishes the book donates a portion of the profit to children's charitable organisations.
