Disney Go Green: A Family Guide to a Sustainable Lifestyle #review THE GREEN CRAFT CUPBOARD

Children are interested in how their actions effect the planet. With Earth Day (4/22) fast approaching I'm pleased to review Disney Go Green: A Family Guide to a Sustainable Lifestyle (Edda USA;$12.95 hardcover)  You can join Mickey and his pals in living a greener life. There are interesting facts and great tips on sustainable living with lots of fun  craft actives.

There are a plethora of ways your craft cupboard can go green. What kids would pass up the opportunity to paint. You can teach your child how to used items found in nature boiling them to release their natural dyes-A few options

Blueberries
black walnuts
coffee beans
cayenne pepper
marigolds
dandelions

I also found a few other fun HOMEMADE PAINTS you can make - this blog post is really worth checking out!!!

Let your kids get creative in other ways--DON'T THROW AWAY SCRAP PAPER! I've set aside a bin were my kids put all their scraps- After reading Disney Go Green... my Son was inspired to create this from our scrap bin--I SEE A FUTURE PICASSO  =D

After your artist have made a few master pieces hanging them in the family room also saves you cash on decorating. I love that I can swap out my art work every month for little to no cost always giving the room a fresh feel and my kids are SO PROUD of seeing their work on display!

Below is another crafting ideal that is so simple and such a stunning result.
Three items needed

A- canvas  [This on happened to be paired with another that had a small tare I paid under $5 for the pair 16X20 the torn canvas is going to become a mod-pod piece soon]

B-2 liter  soda bottle

C- Acrylic paint

First step is to draw out a few branches

Pour out the pink paints  on a paper plate and dip the bottom of the soda bottle in to make the blooms... repeat repeat repeat until you've go the Cherry Blossom look you wish.

Here are a few other suggestions on how to reuse materials for crafting projects

OJ carton Bird Feeder

Old paper towel and TP rolls add a notch
at the ends and use them as Lincoln Logs!

Jar from Apple Sauce can be
painted and made into a pencil holder

Collecting reclaimed materials for art is lots of fun. Just remember to organize all the goods. old glass jars, shoes boxes or yogurt cups make great storage bins. You and your family will soon see the awesome value in other wise worthless objects!
