More Earth Day Tips

 Earth Day Tips:

Shower Power! A full bathtub requires about 70 gallons of water, but taking a five-minute shower saves water by using 10 to 25 gallons. Put a little timer or clock near your shower so you can see how fast you are. Save even more water, and money on your water bill, by installing a water-efficient shower head, or ask your landlord to install one if you rent.

Don't top off!During hot weather, don't top off your gas tank. Refuel your car or truck in the early morning or the evening when it's cooler. A small fuel spill may not seem like much, but every spill evaporates and adds to air pollution, and fuel pumps with vapor recovery systems can feed a spill back into their tanks - after you paid for it. So, in hot weather - don't top off!

Lower the Temp in Your Fridge!

As one of the biggest appliances in your kitchen, the refrigerator is also one of the most power hungry, accounting for 10 to 15 percent of the average home energy bill each month. Get your fridge running in tip-top shape. First, set the refrigerator thermostat to maintain a temperature between 38 and 42 degrees (F). This temperature will protect your food from spoiling while saving electricity. Twice a year, clean the condenser coil at the back of your fridge. Condenser coils tend to get dusty, making them less efficient.

Thrifty Thursday 4/11/2013

With Earth day just 5 days away I thought I 'd share a little photo essay of one great thrifty UP-cycling project we did   my daughter did this past weekend.

A while back we had our bathroom redone...I don't like to throw out anything so I had a medicine cabinet   sitting in the basement and my daughter came to me with a request to use it and make it a nail polish station.

Of course giving the cabinet a NEW purpose was a grand idea!

SO OFF SHE WENT! (me following with camera close behind!!)

Not only did she UP-cycle she'll reduce too because she can see what colors
she has already and will not buy more--
