The Very Hungry Caterpillar Day 3/20

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Day, March 20th, is a celebration of this beloved character and story as well as the first day of spring. The World of Eric Carle celebrates this special day each year with fun, family-friendly activities and promotions for both mom and child. Here are a few crafts I've done(or will do) that were inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The character and all the yummy food in the book.

You Need
Embroidery hoop, paint, paintbrush, cardstock, scissors, contact paper, colored tissue paper, ribbon

Make It

  1. Paint an embroidery hoop in your child's favorite color. Cut the outline of a butterfly -- or any other shape -- from cardstock, to fit inside the hoop.
  2. Place the butterfly onto a piece of clear contact paper, sticky side up. Let your child tear up colored tissue paper to stick onto the wings. When you're done, place a sheet of tissue paper over the butterfly and add another layer of contact paper, sticky side down.
  3. Place inside the hoop and trim the edges. Hang with a ribbon near a sunny window.
